Surf Trip Mentawai — Raja Ombak Boat Trip

The Raja Ombak is a custom-built 25-meter vessel designed for surfing and diving in Indonesian waters. Built in 2019 in Sulawesi, the boat pays tribute to the maritime tradition of the Bugis merchants, navigators who crossed the seas of Indonesia for hundreds of years.

The four-deck vessel features social areas, four double cabins with private bathrooms, three shared air-conditioned cabins with private bathrooms, and a dining room with TV and sound system.

During the cruise, guests enjoy buffet-style meals combining Indonesian and Western dishes, as well as snacks served throughout the day.

A wide variety of surf breaks caters to intermediate surfers—long, full walls—as well as advanced surfers seeking shallow, powerful and dry tubes. Your group can discuss the type of waves you would like to surf with the experienced Western surf guide. The guide will select the best breaks depending on swell size, swell direction and wind.

Many of these waves have been featured in dozens of surf films over the years. Breaks such as E-Bay, Bank Vaults, Hideaways, No Kandui, Rifles, Telescopes, HT’s, Macaronis, Greenbush, Rags, Lighthouse and The Hole are among the most popular with surf filmmakers. All of these waves break over shallow coral reefs, creating insane barrels for experienced surfers. The list continues with a series of easier waves, such as Pit Stops, Burger World, Nipussi, Baby Kandui, Karanbijat Left, 4-Bobs, A-Frames, Scarecrows, Bintangs, Lance’s Left, Sand Bars, Bat Caves, KFC, Roxy’s and Moots. These waves offer the chance to work on turns and find some more manageable barrels.

There are many well-known breaks where you can find great waves, but if you want to escape the crowds and explore, you can ask the surf guide to take you to several lesser-known but equally incredible breaks. That is what we do best.
